A comparison of inequality in the distribution of income or consumption. Higher Gini values indicate greater inequality; this ranking does not prescribe a preferred level.
MethodologyGini measures inequality in the distribution of income or consumption. In the World Bank presentation, 0 represents perfect equality and 100 represents maximum inequality. Household surveys, income definitions and income-versus-consumption concepts differ between economies and over time, so international comparisons require caution. The observation year reflects the underlying survey, including its start year when collection spans two years. Latest valid non-null observation per economy across the complete available series. Observation years may differ; selection does not enforce a common year. No missing values are imputed and no age cutoff is applied. Regional, income and other World Bank aggregates are excluded using the official economy classification.
